We can simplify the expression two ways. Both ways will yield the same result.

1. Distributive property.

We can distribute 3 to each term in the parentheses, and then simplify.

3(-4 + 7)

-12 + 21

9

2. Solving inside the parentheses by using PEMDAS.

3(-4 + 7)

3(3)

9
